Matt Todd will sit out the rest of the rugby year after undergoing surgery on a torn pectoral muscle.

Todd, 25, sustained the injury during Canterbury's ITM Cup loss to Wellington Lions, and he underwent the surgery after a diagnosis on Monday. The two-Test Crusaders and All Blacks flanker now faces six months on the sidelines, meaning he is unavailable for New Zealand's year-ending tour of Japan and Europe. He could also miss the start of the Crusaders' Super Rugby campaign in February.

Todd made his Test debut this year, coming off the bench in games against France at New Plymouth in June and South Africa in Auckland.
