Another day, another twist in the future of Sonny Bill Williams who has now confirmed he plans to return to rugby union, but not until 2015.

Williams, who will take part in the 2013 Rugby League World Cup for New Zealand, has said he plans to link-up with his former side the Chiefs in 2015 and harbours hopes of turning out in the World Cup the same year.

Williams looked set to return to union in time for the 2014 season but performed a U-turn to re-commit to the Sydney Roosters for another year.

"I will go back to the New Zealand Rugby Union to try and put my foot in the door for a franchise in New Zealand, hopefully the Chiefs," Williams said. "But I understand, with the situation of staying in league, that might not be an option.

"But it's good to have made my intentions clear for the next three years. I wanted to put it all out there as I am overhearing what I am going to do as everyone else."

Williams' boxing career will also be put on hold for three years as he focuses on making his way onto the New Zealand sevens Olympic squad to play in Rio in 2016-a year after helping the All Blacks try to retain the Rugby World Cup.
