Veteran half-back Piri Weepu is to resume training with the Blues after making a full recovery from his stroke and minor heart surgery. After consultation with his neurologist and cardiologist, the 30-year-old half-back has been cleared to rejoin the team although he won't be available for Friday's Super Rugby game against the Hurricanes in Wellington.

Instead, the 71-Test half-back is expected to be in contention to to face the Waratahs in Auckland a week later. Weepu suffered a minor stroke last month, which was diagnosed as being caused by a small hole in his heart. A Blues statement said he had recovered fully from surgery to close the hole and has shown no residual problems.

In further positive injury news for the Blues, they welcome back seven other players from injury this week: forwards Keven Mealamu, Patrick Tuipulotu, Peter Saili, Kane Barrett and Tom Donnelly, along with halfback Jamison Gibson-Park and midfield back Jackson Willison.
