Charles Piutau will be out of action for between six and eight weeks after he sustained a serious knee injury in the Blues' Super Rugby defeat by the Chiefs in New Plymouth on Friday.

Piutau left the field midway through the first half of the match at Yarrow Stadium, won 32-20 by the Chiefs, with what Blues doctor Stephen Kara confirmed was a grade two medial ligament strain in the right knee.

Piutau, in a brace and on crutches on Saturday, is likely to miss the All Blacks' three-Test series against England and the remainder of the regular home-and-away Super Rugby season as a result of the injury.
