Jesse Mogg believes the introduction of the National Rugby Championship (NRC) will benefit Australian rugby in the coming years.

The fullback, who is currently playing with the Canberra Vikings, heaped praise on Australia's newest rugby competition and says it has already generated plenty of positive feedback.

"The NRC has so far been great for not just the players but also the public," Mogg told ESPNScrum. "All the boys have really enjoyed the format of the competition and players have adapted well to the law variations, which is good."

Mogg is confident that the new, third-tier competition will allow Australia to catch up to other successful rugby nations which have had these structures in place for years.

"The NRC will hold Australian rugby and the Wallabies in good stead,"he said. "The timing is really good with all of the international matches and it also allows players that are in and out of the [Wallabies] side to continue playing and stay match fit. South Africa and New Zealand already have this type of competition so it's great for us to join them. It's probably taken Australia a little longer to implement this type of competition because of our large sporting landscape."

Having been capped 50 times for the Brumbies, Mogg has played his fair share of Super Rugby and believes the NRC isn't far off the Southern Hemisphere's premier rugby competition.

"It's definitely a lot quicker than first anticipated and it took a while to get used to the speed and physicality. It really is quite similar to the Super Rugby," said Mogg.

Mogg will use the remainder of the NRC to maintain form, try a few new things and ensure his body is set to go next year."

"At the moment I'm just looking at playing some good football and the NRC allows us to do that" Mogg said. "The focus will also be on getting myself ready for the 2015 Brumbies season."

Mogg and the Vikings will meet the Sydney Stars at Leichhardt Oval in Sydney for round five of the NRC on Saturday.
