All Blacks first five-eighth Dan Carter is back on the sidelines after being ruled out of Canterbury's national provincial championship rugby match against Tasman on Saturday. The star playmaker hasn't got over a bruised calf from the defending champions' defeat to Southland last weekend.

Coach Scott Robertson said Carter had been recovering well, but was was ruled out of contention at the captain's run on Friday.

The match against Southland was Carter's first since he suffered a leg fracture in the Crusaders' Super Rugby final defeat to the Waratahs in early August.
