Crusaders re-sign Crotty, Fruean, Ellis

Ryan Crotty has re-signed with the Crusaders and New Zealand Rugby for two more seasons, to the end of 2017. The midfielder recommitted just days after All Blacks team-mate Wyatt Crockett had re-signed until the end of 2018.

The Crusaders, meanwhile, announced that a raft of lower-profile players had re-committed to the franchise for the re-build in the absence of Richie McCaw, Dan Carter and Colin Slade.

Prop Tim Perry has not played since he was injured in the 2014 ITM Cup semi-finals, but coach Todd Blackadder is sure that he'll be ready to make an impact in 2016.

Codie Taylor will also return in 2016, having impressed at hooker and catching the eye of ESPN columnist and former All Blacks front-rower Craig Dowd. Young lock Scott Barrett will return in 2016 after being catapulted into the starting line-up at just 21 years of age and holding his own alongside All Black locks Sam Whitelock and Luke Romano.

Former New Zealand scrum-half Andy Ellis and Mitchell Drummond will continue to compete for the starting half-back spot in 2016, while dynamic outside back Robbie Fruean will return after a season cut short by a fractured arm sustained in the third round.

Utility back David Havili, five-eighth/fullback Richie Mo'unga and loose forward Jed Brown have been The Crusaders have also promoted to the full squad from the Wider Training Group.
