Hawke's Bay beat Mid Canterbury to retain Ranfurly Shield

Hawke's Bay have retained the Ranfurly Shield with a 57-12 victory against Mid Canterbury at McLean Park in Napier, overwhelming the Heartland Championship side in the final 30 minutes.

Mid Canterbury led 12-11 when fly-half Murray Williams kicked his fourth penalty 10 minutes into the second half, but the Magpies, inspired by Blues first-five Ihaia West, took charge and posted six tries to seal their sixth successful defence in style.

The Magpies touched down seven times in the match, with centre Jonah Lowe picking up a brace.
