Lomu cited for tackle on Grey

Hurricanes and All Blacks winger to appear before the ARU judiciary.

After Saturday evening's sensational Super 12 match in Sydney between the Waratahs and the Hurricanes, Jonah Lomu has been cited by the independent Citing Commissioner. Lomu was sin-binned by South African referee Andre Watson for his tackle on centre Nathan Grey early in the game. Towards the end of the first half Lomu received his second yellow card, and therefore the automatic red card, for a knock down of a pass adjudged to have been deliberate and a professional foul.

The tackle on Grey turned into a 'spear tackle ', although it was not clear that Lomu's intention was reckless. He is so much bigger and taller than most opponents, especially backs, that the tackle may have seemed worse than it was. Grey, who landed on his nick, did require medical attention for several minutes.

Lomu will appear before the Judiciary at 4.00 on Sunday afternoon.
