Erasmus out of Blues clash
May 3, 2000

Cats captain Rassie Erasmus has pulled out the team to play the Blues at Ellis Park of Friday after straining his right calf muscle in training on Tuesday.

Team doctor Jon Patricios confirmed that Erasmus would sit this week out, adding that it would only be possible to deliver a more accurate prognosis by the end of this week or early next week. Erasmus is expected to be replaced by Lions loose forward Walter Minnaar.

Coach Laurie Mains conceded the team was obviously very disappointed to be without the services of its inspirational skipper, but said Minnaar was an experienced player who would quickly fit in.

Meanwhile, flyhalf Louis Koen has been declared fit to play. Koen took a heavy knock to his hip against the Reds and was replaced by MJ Smith 20 minutes into the second half.

Griquas flyhalf Boeta Wessels has been called up to the squad as reserve flyhalf due to the unavailability of both Smith and Hennie le Roux.
