Larkham in serious doubt
March 1, 2001

The Brumbies are almost certain to lose Wallaby flyhalf Stephen Larkham for a second week.

The Brumbies meet the Sharks in Durban on Saturday, and to make matters worse for the Super 12 favourites, Larkham is also a doubtful starter for the following week against the Bulls in Johannesburg.

Larkham has struggled during the pre-season with a hamstring injury, but he was expected to make a return against the Sharks.

"His hamstring hasn't come on as much as we would have hoped," Jones told AAP. "He got through 90 per cent of the session yesterday but got another twinge so we're not prepared to risk him.

"He would be 50-50 to play in Johannesburg, but we'll just have to wait and see."

Jones is likely to again opt for Rod Kafer at flyhalf and run James Holbeck at inside-centre.

Bookmakers have the Brumbies a clear favourite to take the game, but Jones is expecting one of the toughest games of the season for his side.

"We're getting a feeling that this will be one of the most physical games we'll play," Jones said. "The Sharks have gone back to their direct style of play and they have that very powerful pack and we expect them to take us on up front."
