Larkham withdraws again
March 14, 2001

The long-awaited return of Brumbies and Wallaby flyhalf, Stephen Larkham won't go ahead this Saturday after he was ruled of the game against the Northern Bulls at Bruce Stadium.

Just 24-hours after saying he was cautiously optimistic Larkham would return, Brumbies coach Eddie Jones explained that an examination of Larkham this morning revealed that his hamstring has still not completely recovered from the injury he sustained in the Brumbies first trial against the Highlanders.

"We were hopeful yesterday that he would be fit and ready to play on Saturday night against the Bulls. At this stage he is only 95 per cent fit and there was no guarantee that he would be able to play 80 minutes and we feel it is better to rest Steve another week," said Jones.

The Wallaby pivot has missed the opening three games of the Super 12.

The Brumbies have named a 24-man squad for Saturday's match against the Bulls with the inclusion of training contract player Matthew Weaver.

Weaver is a prop from the Canberra Vikings and has been training with the team since October last year.

David Giffin and James Holbeck were not considered for selection due to injury.
