Jones expecting Reds backlash
March 28, 2001

If the Reds ever needed a spark to get them out of a rut it's a local derby and for that reason Brumbies coach Eddie Jones is wary in the lead-up to Friday night's game at Ballymore.

The Reds are not ravelling well after three successive losses and desperately need a win on Friday to stay in touch with the Super 12 leaders. The Brumbies on the other hand are travelling well with four wins from their five games and have maintained the competition favouritism despite the stumble against the Sharks in Durban.

But with a side stacked with Wallaby talent, Jones said the Reds would lift - not only as they were playing another Australian side, but also as it was a rare appearance at home this season before heading on a two-game tour of South Africa.

The Brumbies are expected to go into the game with an unchanged starting line-up with just one change to the bench. Former Queensland speedster Damien McInally replaces the injured James Holbeck.

"They have 11 Wallabies in their starting line-up so they certainly have quality and experience on their side," Jones said of the Queensland threat. "It's always tight when we play the Reds and this week will be no different.

"They've been a little unlucky in a few of their matches this year and have only lost games by the narrowest of margins."

Brumbies: 15-Mark Bartholomeusz; 14-Andrew Walker, 13-Stirling Mortlock, 12-Rod Kafer, 11-Graeme Bond; 10-Stephen Larkham, 9-George Gregan (c); 8-Jim Williams, 7-George Smith, 6-Owen Finegan, 5-David Pusey, 4-Justin Harrison; 3-Ben Darwin, 2-Jeremy Paul, 1-Bill Young.
