All Black first-five Andrew Mehrtens will make his first start of the season for the Crusaders against the Hurricanes in Christchurch on Saturday night.

Mehrtens came off the bench last weekend against the Reds and is now judged ready by coach Robbie Deans to return fulltime to the champions'line-up.

All Black centre Mark Robinson, who came on as a substitute last week as well, also makes the run-on side for the sixth round tie.

However, there's not such good news for All Black lock Norm Maxwell. He has been bracketed with Dallas Seymour in the reserves. Maxwell has been recovering from a groin strain.

Deans has also included David Hewett in place of Greg Feek in the front row and Matt Sexton gets a start at hooker in place of Andrew Hore.

Crusaders: Leon MacDonald, Afato So'oalo, Mark Robinson, Daryl Gibson, Caleb Ralph, Andrew Mehrtens, Justin Marshall, Brad Thorn, Scott Robertson, Sam Broomhall, Chris Jack, Todd Blackadder (c), Greg Somerville, Matt Sexton, David Hewett.

Subs: Andrew Hore, Greg Feek, Dallas Seymour/Norm Maxwell, Richard McCaw, Ben Blair, Aaron Mauger, Ben Hurst.
