Herbert commits to 2003 World Cup
March 30, 2001

Wallaby centre Daniel Herbert has ignored the lure of a handsome contract in Europe and signed a two-year deal with the Queensland Reds.

The deal ensures Herbert is available for Australian for his third World Cup in 2003.

The 27-year-old becomes the youngest player to reach 100 games for Queensland when he runs out against the ACT Brumbies at Ballymore tonight. The new deal also makes him a realistic chance of passing Andrew Slack's Queensland Record of 133 matches.

"Rugby was never about money and I'm looking forward to being part of the Wallabies' campaign to defend the World Cup," Herbert said.

"The Reds are going through some significant change at the moment and I think we're entering an exciting time. Being part of the Reds Super 10 win in 1995 has been one of the highlights of my career and I'd love to win a Super 12 with Queensland."
