Kronfeld signs for Tigers

Premiership champions Leicester ended weeks of speculation on Tuesday by signing former New Zealand All Black Josh Kronfeld - the club's biggest signing of rugby union's professional era.

Kronfeld, whose international retirement came as All Black selectors were considering the team for next month's tour of Japan, France and Italy, has agreed a two-year contract at Welford Road.

The former Otago and Highlanders openside flanker played 54 Tests for New Zealand after making his debut against Canada in 1995, and his courage and total physical commitment made him one of the most popular All Blacks.

The signing of 29-year-old Kronfeld creates a fascinating scenario for next term given that Leicester's current open-side flanker is England and British Lions star Neil Back.
