Wellington's 27 year old no8/ blindside flanker Semo Sititi will again lead Manu Samoa in 2001.

Coach John Boe, once more seconded by the NZRFU after assisting Peter Sloane with the Highlanders' Super 12 campaign, has kept faith with the man he elevated to the captaincy this time last year.

And why not ? Sititi led his Manu Samoan side to the Epson Cup championship in 2000, and in the process played some irresistible rugby. That tournament has been revamped this year, organised on a regional basis with the finals being played in Japan in July.Since making his test debut in 1999, Sititi has made 9 test appearances, in the process scoring 3 tries. He is also an acknowledged sevens expert, his mobility and handling skills much in evidence at the Wellington sevens back in February. He has played NPC football with Wellington and Super 12 in 2000 with the Hurricanes, but did not get a contract in 2001.

Boe's squad are currently preparing in Auckland but the details will not be finalised until they travel to Apia next week and acclimatise before they enter the fray against Fiji and Tonga , in what promises to be a very competitive tri-nations series.

They also have the small matter of a date with the All Blacks to look forward to.On June 16, at Albany Stadium on the outskirts of Auckland, they provide Wayne Smith's men with their first test opponents of 2001.
