Auckland rugby clubs enter the business end of the Telecom Gallaher Shield competition when Round Two begins on Saturday.

The 10 Premier One teams will be vying for a spot in the semi-finals,scheduled to be held at Eden Park on July 21. The teams will also be out to ensure they do not have to play a promotion /relegation game against the top Premier Two side at the end of the round robin competition.

At the end of Round One, Grammar Carlton was top Premier One team and
Eden was the top Premier Two team, which earned a promotion, along with Tamaki, to Premier One. Grammar Carlton will be keen to maintain the number one spot, while the two promoted teams will be determined to keep their place in Premier One for next year.

With the Super 12 out of the way and only one Aucklander in the All Blacks, most Auckland Super 12 players will turning out for their clubs right through the Telecom Gallaher Shield competition. Only players who are injured or away with New Zealand representative sides will be unavailable for selection by their club coaches.

Auckland's sole All Black, Doug Howlett, has indicated he is keen to
play for Marist this weekend before he joins the All Black training squad at the Adidas Institute of Rugby in Palmerston North on June 2. Marist plays University at Liston Park at 2.30pm tomorrow.

Other key match ups this Saturday are the western derby of Suburbs vs Waitemata at Avondale and Ponsonby vs Grammar Carlton at Western Springs Stadium.
