Ross Martin and Joeli Vidiri are to join an injury-hit New Zealand Sevens squad in Cardiff for the final tournament of this year's World Series circuit.

Injured forward Dallas Seymour is to return home while coach Gordon Tietjens has to deal with a number of other injury concerns this week. Jonah Lomu, who joined the New Zealand squad for the final day of the London Sevens in place of Seymour, must also return home to take part in the National Training Squad camp this weekend.

New Zealand head into next weekend's Welsh Sevens well-placed to defend their World Series title.Monday's victory over Australia in the London Sevens final gives them an eight-point lead over their trans- Tasman rivals. Tournament winners gain 20 points while the beaten finalists earn 16 and losing semifinalists 12.

Martin, from Bay of Plenty, has established himself as a regular member of the New Zealand Sevens squad this season but initially missed out on the trip to Britain following the availability of a number of more experienced players who had previously been required for Super 12 duties.

Vidiri links up with the Sevens squad after playing for the Barbarians in Cardiff, Edinburgh and London last week. The former All Black hasn't played Sevens this year but was a member of the World Cup training squad and played in the first two tournaments of the current circuit. He was also a member of the Commonwealth Games gold medal-winning squad in 1998.

The squad is: Amasio Valence, Malili Muliaina, Craig de Goldi, Mana Ashford, Joeli Vidiri (Auckland), Johnny Leo'o, Jason Tiatia (Canterbury), Karl Te Nana (North Harbour), Jared Going (Northland), Hayden Reid (Otago), Chris Masoe (Taranaki), Damian Karauna (Waikato), Ross Martin (Bay of Plenty).
