Black Ferns working on polish : New Zealand v England preview

Black Ferns coach Darryl Suasua is demanding a more polished performance from his side when they take on England in the second test at Albany's North Harbour Stadium on Saturday night.

New Zealand ran in three tries to one for a 15-10 win over England in Rotorua last weekend but Suasua said his team was determined to improve on a somewhat rusty performance when the sides faced each other again tomorrow.

"Last Saturday's match was our first international since last October, and really we only had four days to get the team out of an early-season club mindset and prepared for an international," Suasua said.

"It was a big ask but the players rose to it and, in the end, a win is a win.

"We knew England would be tough. They are now semi-professional and are intent on beating New Zealand so it was no surprise that they came out fighting. But we've had a look at ourselves over the past week and where we made mistakes we have looked to fix them, " he said.

"Vision and repetition have been key this week. We have been working on aspects of our game and repeating them until we've got it right."

The injury worries that plagued the Black Ferns' first test have largely gone, and Suasua has made just one change to his side, with winger Sandie Yates returning from injury to take her place on the substitutes bench. The only question mark is over replacement Auckland looseforward Tala Mulipola who has been bracketed with Jacinta Nielson (Otago) pending a fitness test today.

Despite the Black Ferns' 10-year unbeaten record, Suasua said his team was not taking anything for granted and the players were well aware that the English would be lifted by the closeness of last weekend's scoreline.

"This is our first test series at home and we are determined to do well for New Zealand," he said.

"Our motivation is the black jersey and the Black Ferns' history and tradition. I know our players will give everything to this game, particularly in front of the home crowd in Albany."

The match, which kicks off at 5.30pm, is also serving as the curtainraiser to the All Blacks' first test of the year, against Manu Samoa.
