Taranaki prop Gordon Slater and Waikato centre Keith Lowen will join the current All Blacks squad to prepare for the opening match of the Philips Tri-Nations Series in Cape Town, South Africa, on July 21.

The 26-man squad named this morning by selectors Wayne Smith, Tony Gilbert and Peter Thorburn will assemble at the adidas Institute of Rugby in Palmerston North next Sunday evening and will fly out to South Africa five days later on Friday, July 13.

The All Blacks enjoyed a successful June, winning their three tests against Manu Samoa, Argentina and France. In the process they scored some scintillating tries and showed that their defence is likely to be more formidable in 2001. With the Springboks seemingly unsure of their best combinations and the Wallabies in danger of a real hammering from the Lions, Wayne Smith's side seem well placed in this year's championship to take the titl, which they last won in 1999.
