Tri-Nations will surpass the Lions

Australian coach Eddie Jones on Wednesday said the Tri-Nations would surpass their recent Lions tour for intensity and physicality.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of Saturday's Test against the Springbok at Loftus Versfeld, the newly-elected Wallaby coach said: "The Lions tour was some of the most physical rugby I've ever seen, but the Tri-Nations will surpass that.

"That is what is exciting about rugby. It is a dynamic, evolving thing and right now it is at a very physical stage."

Jones, who recently replaced the successful Rod Macqueen as Wallaby coach, said he would not be making any significant changes to the Aussie structure. "There are very good structures in place and we will just try to improve on that," the former Brumbies gaffer said.

Asked about counterpart Harry Viljoen's Vision 2003 plan, Jones said the Australians were not looking too far ahead, but rather concentrating on each game. "Our first objective is to perform well in the Tri-Nations," he said. "Every game is a building block and we will just look to performing our best in every match."
