Test ticket scramble on again
August 2, 2001

The great bunfight for rugby Test tickets will be on again when only 15,000 seats become available to the public for John Eales' farewell game at Stadium Australia on September 1.

The Wallabies meet the All Blacks in the final Tri-Nations clash with a capacity of 90,000 expected to attend.

An Australian Rugby Union spokesman said many grass-roots supporters would be catered for in the 75,000 reserved seat-holders, which includes associations and clubs, Wallaby First members and Stadium Gold members.

The ARU had to defend itself against strong criticism last month when only small ticket allocations were made available to the public for the three Tests against the British Lions.

With the Stadium Australia Test expected to be sold out, ARU officials are hoping the Test against South Africa in Perth on August 18 will also be sold out. If so, it will complete the Wallabies' first sold-out season in Australia with 310,000 fans having watched the five Tests.

Tickets are expected to go on sale for Eales' final match in about two weeks.
