'Stop your whinging Eddie' - Harry
August 21, 2001

Springbok coach Harry Viljoen on Monday labelled his Australian counterpart Eddie Jones a whinger following reactions to their drawn Vodacom Tri-Nations Test in Perth last on Saturday.

Viljoen said Jones' credibility as a professional was slipping and if the Australian coach's influence of spying on opponents caught on in rugby, then he didn't want to be involved in the game.

The Springboks arrived in Auckland on Sunday for the Tri-Nations Test against the All Blacks at Eden Park on Saturday.

Viljoen learned about the claims of technical fouls and dangerous tackles by his team levelled in the Australian media before he left Perth. "I rate Eddie as a very good coach, probably one of the best coaches in the world, but they've been whingeing about a lot of things," Viljoen told NZPA.

"I think it takes a bit of his professionalism away. I've been reading about all the things we've done - the bad things - but we haven't attacked them at all. They've been talking about us slowing down the ball. But when they were doing it they were seen as being smart. Suddenly we're seen as being very negative."

Jones and Australian captain John Eales claimed the South Africans were using technical fouls to deny quick ball from breakdowns and that flyhalf Butch James continually tackled dangerously.

The No 10 was sinbinned by New Zealand referee Steve Walsh for a dangerous tackle after being warned twice for similar offences in Perth. Captain Bob Skinstad was sin-binned as well on Saturday for a technical foul. - Sapa
