Arlidge seals Northland victory
September 28, 2001

Northland's James Arlidge kicked a crucial last-minute conversion to seal a 44-43 victory over Auckland at Eden Park.

Auckland led 33-20 at halftime and extended their lead in the second period but a determined Northland side refused to let the game go.

Trailing 43-37, Northland struck back through Fijian winger Rupeni Caucaunibuca who claimed a late score that flyhalf James Arlidge converted.

Rubbing salt in that painful wound is the fact that Arlidge is an Aucklander through and through and has moved to Northland for the NPC as part of the Blues franchise's desire for all its best players to play regularly.
