Robinson to play for Otago
October 17, 2001

North Harbour captain and former All Blacks halfback Mark Robinson will play for the Highlanders in the Super 12 next year.

The 26-year-old will swap franchises with Byron Kelleher, who will play for the Blues next season after signing with Auckland on Tuesday.

Otago coach Laurie Mains (pictutred) confirmed Robinson would be in Highlanders colours in 2002. "I'm absolutely delighted," he said.

"Mark's in the top two or three New Zealand halfbacks and he's a really talented player. We're fortunate to get him for the Super 12. He's also displayed outstanding leadership qualities with North Harbour."

Mains said Robinson would continue to play for North Harbour in the NPC. "It's not for me to comment on the paper workings of it, but I can say Mark will play his Super 12 here."

Robinson, who has played 60 matches for North Harbour, played four games, including one Test, for the All Blacks in 1997-98 and is in line for a recall for the upcoming tour of Ireland, Scotland and Argentina after an outstanding campaign with North Harbour. - Sapa
