Rush ready for comeback

Eric Rush, the man who has illuminated the world of Sevens rugby over the last decade, has chosen the Dubai Rugby Sevens as the venue to launch his comeback after a career-threatening injury.

New Zealand captain Rush, who was Player of the Tournament in Dubai last year, broke his leg earlier this year but has battled his way back to fitness and is determined to re-capture his wizardry at the age of 35.

"As soon as I knew what was wrong, I targeted Dubai as the tournament to get fit for," he said. "Dubai is just awesome. There's a real carnival atmosphere when the Sevens circuit comes to town. It's a great place to visit.

"I've got a lot of fond memories from Dubai, right from the first time I played there on a sand pitch. Winning the Emirates International Trophy for the first time was also a really special memory."

Rush is expected to resume the captaincy of the New Zealand side, which is likely to include Orene Ai'i who burst onto the international scene in sensational fashion in Dubai two years ago.

Rush's pledge to play in the Emirates-sponsored event is a huge boost for the tournament, which will be launching the new Sevens season from November 7-9. - Sapa
