Melville confirms interest in Gatland
December 9, 2001

Wasps director of rugby Nigel Melville has confirmed he is interested in taking former Ireland coach Warren Gatland to Loftus Road.

"I want to bring in a forwards coach," Melville said after the 23-10 defeat at Northampton. "I have spoken to Warren about his plans and I want to speak to him again, but I don't know what his intentions are. I would love him to be our forwards coach."

Melville rued a number of missed chances by Wasps in this bottom-of-the-table clash and admitted: "We would have loved to have come away with something today, but we find ourselves four points behind Bath. There is plenty of time to make that up though."

However, he refuses to be downhearted. "I am concerned," he said, "but I am not going to hang myself. I am not doing anything different this year than I have been doing for the last six years. It has worked then and I am sure it will work now."
