Dunedin poised for unique double-header

When a Super 12 match and an England cricket tour date clashed next March at Carisbrook, officials from both codes began working towards a unique two-sport doubleheader.

The result is that on March 2, hopes are that England and Otago will conclude their three-day cricket match about 3pm and the Highlanders will play South Africa's Sharks about four hours later at the same ground.

Otago Rugby Football Union chief executive John Hornbrook confirmed on Wednesday he is working with New Zealand Cricket (NZC) to try to achieve the doubleheader.

"We're extremely keen to host the England team, especially in Otago cricket's 125th anniversary season," he said. "What we're trying to achieve would be a first."

Hornbrook said the details would have to be agreed by New Zealand Cricket and the England Cricket Board. - Sapa
