Flynn to retain captaincy ahead of McCaw
March 19, 2007

Corey Flynn will retain the captaincy of the Crusaders in this weekend's Super 14 rugby match against the Stormers, despite the imminent return to action of All Blacks skipper Richie McCaw.

Coach Robbie Deans confirmed today that retaining hooker Flynn as captain would allow the returning conditioning All Blacks to concentrate on their roles within the team.

McCaw, who led the Crusaders to the title last year, was one of seven players to miss the franchise's first seven rounds of the Super 14 while completing an All Blacks conditioning programme.

"It was an easy decision," Deans said.

"Retaining Corey as skipper for this weekend gives the team continuity while allowing those who are returning to focus on their roles without an added distraction."

The Crusaders side will be named tomorrow.
