Brumbies utility-back Julian Huxley has had his dreams of returning to action this season wiped out on medical advice.

Huxley, who has six caps for the Wallabies, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in March 2008 after suffering a seizure whil playing against Queensland Reds. Having undergone surgery and radiation therapy to rid himself of the tumour, Huxley was hoping to make a return to competitive action in the 2009 Super 14.

He has now been advised by doctors that a return would be ill advised, and has subsequently taken a step back from his role as the Brumbies' kicking coach.

"We won't see him return to rugby this year," Brumbies coach Andy Friend told AAP. "He's been working with the players up until Christmas time with the kicking and he's currently taking a break for the month of January and just assessing things.

"It's been a difficult period for him given as he had an expectation that he wanted to play again but medically that opportunity has been taken away from him. He's just got to do some personal soul searching, if you like, and find out what it is that he wants to do but having him around here as a person is motivational for everybody and we hope that he'll stay with us."

The Brumbies are currently preparing for their trial games against the Hurricanes on January 30 and the Waratahs on February 5 before their Super 14 campaign kicks off with a trip to face the Highlanders in Dunedin.
