Luke McAlister's hopes of being included in New Zealand's end-of-year touring party are in serious jeopardy after the versatile back suffered a suspected broken jaw in action for North Harbour on Sunday.

The 27-year-old centre, who can also play at fly-half, was forced off in his province's 44-30 ITM Cup win over Manawatu in Albany after taking a heavy knock to the head and he was immediately taken to hospital to undergo x-rays to determine whether he had suffered any fractures.

The injury could not come at a worse time for McAlister, who has been hoping that his recent good form would result in a recall to the All Blacks squad for the Bledisloe Cup clash with Australia in Hong Kong on October 30 and the subsequent tour of Great Britain and Ireland.
