World record holder Gemma Spofforth insists she is fully focused on London 2012 after admitting she considered quitting swimming this week.

Spofforth spent Tuesday night mulling over her future after failing to defend her 100m backstroke title at the World Championships in Shanghai. After a bout of food poisoning Spofforth failed to progress pass the heats, finishing 23rd fastest.

But with just one year to go before the start of the Olympics on home soil, Spofforth has vowed to regain her status as the world No. 1.

"It was a huge decision to make overnight," she said. "A lot of thought went into it. I didn't get much sleep. But I decided this morning it's 100 per cent commitment from here on in. Next year's the one."
