Dwain Chambers has admitted that he no longer expects to go to London 2012, despite the ongoing possibility of a legal ruling clearing his path.

Chambers is currently banned from competing in the Olympics for life by the British Olympic Association after being found guilty of doping in 2003, despite the fact the BOA's rule is considered "non-compliant" with the World Anti-Doping Agency's stance on the matter, which shows leniency on one-time offenders after they have served a ban.

The dispute between the two organisations is due to be heard at the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, but Chambers is refusing to allow himself to hope for a late reprieve.

"There are a lot of bridges that still need to be built and some of them may never be," Chambers told The Times. "I may not go to the Olympics and have got my head around that. I am targeting the European Championships, but if a window of opportunity opens, I will be ready."

Chambers has won four medals in four years for Great Britain in international events - although he was most recently disqualified from the opening round of the 100m at the World Championships - but has otherwise had to scratch out a living from appearances in minor events, after finding himself snubbed by promoters and other athletes for his indiscretions.

Chambers believes he has now turned a corner, however, working with various charities and trying to prevent youngsters from going on to make the same mistakes he did.

"I feel more relaxed around people now," he said. "It's taken a long time for me to get my head around the fact this is my life. You go through such an experience and it does not die easily.

"I will always tell people that if you make a mistake, then tell the truth. I want to share my story and steer people away from making the same choices. If I could stop one person, well, that would make it all worthwhile."
