Pole vault legend Sergey Bubka has singled out Britain's Holly Bleasdale as one to watch at London 2012, the Ukrainian insisting she can pick up an Olympic medal.

Bleasdale has been earmarked as a medal contender following her impressive display at a low-key meeting in France last month, when she cleared 4.87 metres - the fourth highest of all time.

Bubka, the first person to clear six metres, watched her performance in Lyon from afar and liked what he saw.

The 48-year-old, who won gold at the 1988 Seoul Games, told The Times: "It was a very impressive performance - it can bring a medal [at London 2012]. "To compete in an Olympic Games at home gives you additional strength. If she can handle and manage this, she will jump high."
