Wait until May before judging my chances - Ennis

Jessica Ennis is not dwelling on her disappointment at the recent World Indoor Championships - believing that a forthcoming heptathlon in Austria will give a better indication of her gold medal prospects at London 2012.

Ennis, considered one of Team GB's brightest medal prospects this summer, endured a slightly disappointing start to the season at the World Indoors in Istanbul, after she was pipped to gold in the pentathlon by a familiar foe, Ukraine's Nataliya Dobrynska.

The near-miss came just months after Russia's Tatyana Chernova snatched away her World Championship title in Daegu, but Ennis is keen to emphasise the things she learned from both experiences.

"Obviously there's disappointment at what happened in Istanbul," Ennis said. "But you learn so much from events that don't go exactly as planned. And remember, I came away having done three PBs and a national record. I'm in much better shape than I was last year.

"Gotzis [the Hypo Meeting in May] will be big, definitely. Although Istanbul was a great indication of how people are performing, Gotzis will be a much better one. It's the heptathlon. It's the event we will be doing at London 2012. And it's not that far out from the Games."

It was the long jump that let Ennis down in Istanbul, while the javelin was her undoing in South Korea last year. Ennis realises those events need the majority of her attention in training.

"I do generally spend more time on my weaker events, that's just the norm, but you don't want to become over-fixated on the javelin or the long jump because even if you get those right everything else could fall apart," she noted. "Unfortunately you can't have one below-par event. They all have to be brilliant. That's what it's going to take to win a gold medal."

Ennis, who admits she has not been to the Olympic Stadium site since it was completed, reveals she has not allowed herself to dream of taking gold in Stratford.

"I can honestly say I have not had dreams about winning Olympic gold," she said, "although I've had plenty of dreams about my wedding.

"There's so much that could go right. There's so much that could go wrong. And I just don't think it's healthy to focus on winning a medal or being on the podium. You need to focus on all the individual components before that."
