Tom Daley tasted victory in his last competition before London 2012 as he won the 10 metre platform title at the British Gas Diving Championships in Sheffield.

Daley claimed two scores of 10 on Sunday but a slight mistake on his penultimate back three-and-a-half somersaults saw him fall just short of his personal best of 565.05. However, the 18-year-old had plenty in reserve as he guaranteed his place in Team GB for this summer's Olympics.

"I'm diving at the moment the best I have throughout my career," said Daley. "I'm loving my diving at the moment."

It was an emotional win for Daley, who booked his Olympic place at the pool where his father Robert last saw him compete before he lost his battle with brain cancer last year.

"It's great to know that I have qualified and he will be proud of what I have done,' Daley said. "It feels great to actually win here in front of my mum and my brothers, obviously it is sad that my dad is not here.

"'It's just such a great feeling to know you are going to the Olympic Games because it is what every athlete wants."
