Millar in squad to help Cavendish in gold medal pursuit

Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish will both have the chance to go for gold at London 2012 after Team GB announced their road cycling selections - while David Millar is also involved.
Wiggins and Millar are among the five-man team that will support Cavendish in his bid for a road race gold medal, along with Chris Froome and Ian Stannard.
Millar, who was banned for a drugs offence in 2004, is included after the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled that a previous Olympic ban on all drugs cheats imposed by the British Olympic Association was unlawful.
Wiggins and Froome have also been selected to ride the time trial on August 1. Wiggins, who finished second in the time trial prologue to the ongoing Tour de France, will be looking for his first gold medal on the road having won three inside the velodrome in Beijing and Athens.
"I'm happy to be a part of it, we've got a good chance to win the road race with Cav and it's a London Olympics which makes it very special," Wiggins, who finished second in the time trial in last year's World Championships, said. "I've also got a chance to go for my fourth gold medal in the time trial."
The priority is the road race, however, with Cavendish having a strong chance of winning gold on the opening day of the Games after winning the World Championships last year. Wiggins and Millar will be instrumental in leading out the Manx rider to give him the best chance to sprint for victory in the final stage of the 250-kilometre race.
"The final selection for the men's road race was a tough choice as we had a really strong squad of riders to pick from," British Cycling performance director and Team GB cycling team leader Dave Brailsford said. "We have selected the five riders who we believe are on the best form and will give us the fastest team for the race.
"All the riders selected have a gruelling few weeks coming up, with Ian due to ride in the Tour of Poland and the rest of the lads riding in the Tour de France, so we'll be keeping an eye on injury and form but for now, I am confident that we have picked the best team for the race."
