Andy Murray's quest for Olympic gold continues after the British No. 1 eased into the second round of London 2012 with victory over Stanislas Wawrinka.

The third seed was frustrated by rain at Wimbledon, but needed a shade under an hour and a half to secure a 6-3 6-3 victory.

Murray suffered a shock first-round defeat on his Olympic debut in Beijing four years ago, but the Scot never looked in danger of defeat as he secured a popular victory for Team GB.

Murray, who lost his opening doubles match with brother Jamie on Saturday, will now face Jarkko Nieminen in the second round after the Finn defeated Somdev Devvarman 6-3 6-1.

Novak Djokovic, Murray's likely semi-final opponent at SW19, was forced to battle from a set down to reach the second round with victory over Italy's Fabio Fognini.

With the first set firmly in the balance the rain disrupted their first-round clash on Court One, and when they returned after a lengthy delay, Fognini grabbed the tiebreak, but Djokovic dug deep to claim a 6-7(7) 6-2 6-2 victory.

France's Jo-Wilfried Tsonga also had to rally to see off Thomaz Bellucci 6-7(5) 6-4 6-4 while fourth seed David Ferrer beat Canada's Vasek Pospisil 6-4 6-4.

There was a shock in the ladies' draw as Germany's Julia Goerges inflicted a shock first round defeat on Wimbledon finalist Agnieszka Radwanska. The second seed had the honour of carrying the flag for Poland at the opening ceremony, but failed to build on her recent run at SW19 as she slumped to a 7-5 6-7(5) 6-4 reverse.

Heavy rain on Sunday caused havoc with the schedule at the All England Club, and British pair Elena Baltacha and Anne Keothavong's doubles clash against Goerges and Anna-Lena Groenefeld was postponed until Monday. Laura Robson and Heather Watson will also have to wait to get their singles campaigns underway after a frustrating day at Wimbledon.
