Former world champion Cadel Evans has withdrawn from the Olympic time trial at London 2012.

The Australian, who won last year's Tour de France, finished 79th in Saturday's road race, and has withdrawn on the advice of the team doctor.

"He has been seen by the cycling doctor Mark Fisher and Olympic team medical director Peter Baquie," said a statement by the Australian Olympic Committee. "They have confirmed he is fatigued and will not recover in time for Wednesday."

Michael Rogers will be Australia's only entrant in the time trial, as Bradley Wiggins is looking to add Olympic gold to his Tour de France victory.

Defending champion Fabian Cancellara is confident he will be fit to race following his crash on Saturday.
