Peter Wilson overcame a last-gasp stutter to take Team GB's fourth gold of the Olympic Games in the men's double trap shooting.

World No. 2 Wilson, 25, held his nerve to finish ahead of Sweden's Hakan Dahlby, who grabbed a silver, and Russia's Vasily Mosin, who took bronze.

Despite being ranked second, Wilson was the world record holder, so gold was considered well within his reach - especially after Josh Richmond, the American world No. 1, failed to make the final.

Wilson piled the pressure on himself in front of an expectant crowd at the Royal Artillery Barracks by missing both clays on the 21st set of targets. However, that was his final wobble as he continued the Great Britain gold rush.

Prior to that, his lead had been cut to just one as Mosin breathed down his neck - but the Russian let Wilson off the hook with errors at key times in the closing minutes.

His success represents Britain's first Olympic shooting medal for 12 years, since Richard Faulds triumphed in the same event in Sydney.

"It meant a huge amount," Wilson said to BBC Sport. "It's really difficult - I've watched us win a number of other medals, and you watch those guys, and they say it's impossible to talk about it - and it is. It was an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish."
