Adams, who has been forced to box at fly on account of her usual weight class not being included, was not overawed by taking on a larger opponent and roared on at the ExCel, she secured a comfortable 11-6 win.

It was not the classiest contest ever witnessed in amateur boxing, with the two often off balance, but Adams produced the greater work and claimed the win.

Adams held away in the opening round, leading 3-1, and she cemented that lead with a strong showing in the second - in which she landed a superb uppercut.

The expected onslaught from Hmangte, a five-time World Championship gold medalist, failed to materialise in the third, with the Indian boxer bamboozled by the speed of Adams who landed some big blows in the third.

Adams held a four-point lead going into the fourth and final round and she kept her calm to book her place in the gold medal bout.

China's No. 1 seed Cancan Ren stands between Adams and gold.

Ireland's Katie Taylor produced a dominant display to overcome Mavzuna Chorieva 17-9 to book her place in the gold medal bout in the women's lightweight. Taylor will face Sofya Ochigava in the final.
