Ellie Simmonds completed the set at the London 2012 Paralympics as she won silver in the S6 100m freestyle.

Simmonds, who had already won two golds and a bronze at the Games, swam a new personal best but was second best to American Victoria Arlen, whose time of 1:13.33 smashed the existing world record.

"I gave it everything in the last 15m," Simmonds said. "I didn't have anything left. I'm chuffed with a PB by over a second. I would have loved to get gold but you can't have everything."

There was a bronze medal for Harriet Lee in the women's SB9 100m breaststroke, while Jack Bridge finished fourth in the men's equivalent race.

David Stone claimed the third Paralympic gold medal of his career as he defended his mixed T1-2 road race title with victory at Brands Hatch. Stone, who had already won bronze in the time trial, defied a late charge from Italy's Giorgio Farroni to add another gold medal to the two he won in Beijing, while Czech David Vondracek completed the podium.

There was disappointment for world champion Nathan Stevens as he crashed out of the F57/58 javelin final. Stevens was the world record holder coming into the event, but after seeing his mark bettered, first by Claudiney Batista dos Santos (45.38m), and then a monster throw from Mohammad Khalvandi (50.98), the Welshman failed to respond.

After two no throws in his opening efforts, the 24-year-old could only manage 33.10m with his third to finish 12th.

There was also heartbreak for Britain's men's wheelchair basketball team after they missed out on a medal, losing 61-46 to the USA in the bronze medal match at the North Greenwich Arena.

David Smith was forced to settle for silver in the boccia BC1 singles final as he was beaten 7-0 by Roger Aandalen of the Netherlands.
