LeBron eyes third straight gold at Rio 2016

Although he is interested in playing in the 2016 Olympics, LeBron James has not officially committed to Team USA.

James recently told NBA.com that he wants to evaluate his health before locking himself into the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games, where the United States will attempt to win their third straight gold medal in men's basketball.

"No, I'm not officially in just yet," James told NBA.com. "But hopefully I can be healthy enough and on top of my game at that point where I'll be taken."

James, the all-time leading scorer in U.S. Olympic history, will be 31 when the 2016 Games begin. The four-time NBA MVP became one of 13 Americans to win multiple gold medals in 2012, when he led Team USA past Spain in the final game.

James has endured three consecutive grueling seasons with the Miami Heat, the two-time defending NBA champions who open their regular season on Tuesday against the Chicago Bulls.

Miami have reached the NBA Finals in each of the last three seasons, and James has played in 284 games combined - between the regular season and post-season - over that stretch.

In 2012, James joined Michael Jordan as the only players to win an NBA championship, the league's regular-season MVP, the NBA Finals MVP and Olympic gold in the same year.

James also recorded the only triple-double in U.S. Olympic history during the London Games in 2012, achieving the feat against Australia in the quarter-finals.
