South Africa hope to become the first African nation to host the Olympics as they get set to bid for the 2024 or 2028 Games.

The bid is "definitely coming", according to IOC executive board member Sam Ramsamy, the first president of South Africa's united Olympic committee.

Ramsamy aims to discuss the potential bid with government officials after the national elections in April or May.

Following their hosting of the 2010 football World Cup, South Africa had considered making a bid for the 2020 Olympics, which were eventually awarded to Tokyo, though opted not to in order to focus on pressing social issues.

IOC president Thomas Bach, in Johannesburg for the World Conference on Doping in Sport this week, said an African bid would enjoy "great sympathy".
