IOC using new long-term steroid test
Frozen doping samples from the 2006 Winter Games in Turin are to be reanalysed with a new steroid test developed by Olympic officials in a bid to catch undetected drug cheats.
The International Olympic Committee said: "We can confirm we are using the new long-term metabolites method to detect anabolic steroids."
The IOC retested samples for the 2004 and 2008 Summer Games in Athens and Beijing. The Turin retesting revolves around an improved method which can detect the use of steroids going back a lot further than previous testing could.
Doping labs in Cologne and Moscow are reported to have found hundreds of positive cases using the new testing method in recent months.
