IOC spending $500k to retest 350 Turin samples

The IOC are to spend roughly $500,000 retesting 350 samples from the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, based on intelligence targeting athletes and events considered most at risk for cheating.

Dr. Richard Budgett, medical director of the IOC, told The Associated Press that it is possible no positives will be detected from the retesting programme.

The reanalysis of the frozen Turin samples will feature an improved long-term steroid test that detects drug use going back several months.

The IOC are able to store Olympic samples for eight years. The Turin samples' deadline expires in February.
