Concussion sidelines British snowboarder

British snowboarder Jenny Jones faces a frustrating spell away from the slopes in the run-up to the Winter Olympics in Sochi as she recovers from concussion following a training crash in Austria.

Jones is hoping to compete at the Games in February, when slopestyle snowboarding makes its Olympic debut.

The 33-year-old is among Great Britain's medal prospects after winning World Cup silver in August, but her recent set-back will keep her out of competitive action for the next four weeks.

"Due to a concussion I will be spending Christmas in the UK this year," said the three-time X-Games champion.

"No snowboarding until I recover, doctor's orders," she continued on her Facebook page. "Hopefully back riding [in the] middle of January."

Jones will miss this week's Copper Mountain World Cup in the United States, but has been declared fit to continue training away from the snow and plans a return to the slopes shortly after Christmas.

Slopestyle involves pulling different kinds of tricks off rails and jumps, with tricks marked on difficulty and size.

The Sochi 2014 Olympic Games begin on February 7.
