Great Britain miss out on extending medal haul

Great Britain narrowly missed out on winning a medal in the four-man bobsleigh as Russia claimed their 13th gold of the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi.

GBR1 - piloted by John Jackson - produced their best start of the Games in their fourth run to finish 0.11 seconds off a medal position in fifth, as Russia gained top spot just 0.09s ahead of silver medallists Latvia.

"Overall it has been a great race and to only finish 0.11 seconds off the medals is amazing," Jackson told BBC Sport. "Hopefully we'll get the backing [from UK Sport] now an continue to progress in the sport.

"I would like to stay on for another year depending on what the Royal Navy and Royal Marines say. I'm happy to keep working with this boys - the future is bright."

Meanwhile GBR2, piloted by Lamin Deen finished in 19th spot but hoped it was just a starting point for future Olympics.

"It's been a fantastic experience and a long, long road for me and the guys," Deen said. "It would be nice to stay as a crew. Some of our opponents have been together for three to four years and we've only had three to four weeks."

The results mean that Team GB finished their Sochi 2014 campaign with four medals - one gold, one silver and two bronze - to equal their haul at the 1924 Games.

Meanwhile, Great Britain's Andrew Musgrave finished 53rd in the 50 kilometre cross-country skiing.
