Coe vows to increase London 2012 ticket success rate

London 2012 chairman Lord Sebastian Coe has vowed to double the number of successful applicants for next year's Olympic Games after nearly two thirds missed out in the first round of sales.
Of the 1.9 million people who initially applied for tickets, 1.2 million were unsuccessful. However, Coe has appealed to those who missed out to reapply for the 2.3 million tickets that will go on sale on June 24.
"We recognise that a lot of people who have as yet been unsuccessful in that application are clearly disappointed," Coe said. "That's why we are absolutely determined to do everything we possibly can to get tickets to those people who missed out in the first application.
"Our commitment is to get two thirds of that 1.9million people to buy a ticket for the 2012 Games if they want to - and we know they want to be there, they were involved in the application process, are mad sports fans and they want to be there."
Applicants were informed on Friday whether they had obtained tickets, although successful applicants will not find out until next week what sports they have paid for. Those who missed out also received an email, inviting them to reapply "in advance of those customers who were allocated tickets in the initial application phase".
Tickets will be available from 6am on June 24 to 6pm on July 3 on the London 2012 website.
